A spaceship hovers quietly. "Wake up! You've been asleep for seven days." "Yes.... and I must sleep some more. Otherwise I can´t remedy the stress caused by the teacher at school." "But the ship has been stopped." "Oh! There's a problem." "Is there a planet where we can get fuel?" "The blue planet, which we see below on the right, has life on it." "Wow! So much reaction. It looks like a lot of life on the planet." "Let´s go there!" "No, it seems to be too dangerous. We should look for another planet..." "No, no! I think there are more interesting things there we can't see. And it´s boring here. Let´s have some fun!" "Let´s fly down!" "It's dangerous!" "Oooooh...." "Where are we? It looks very beautiful." "This..... is Germany in the EU-area." "What's that?" "Probably a school. There are many children. Look! It says PESTALOZZI." |

"Ok. We'll go in the building and see what´s happening there." "Oh! There's a big monster hanging down from the ceiling!" "Are you stupid? It's made from cardboard and paper by the children." "Let's go right. It says "3b" at the class door." "Look! 25 children sitting at tables and studying. Behind the computer in the corner some iMacs and, wow, a crazy sofa in the reading corner. Hey, you have a lot of books. That´s awesome." "Why is your skin so green? ! Are you Martians?" "Yes, dear Pestalozzi students, we come from the planet Mars and are visiting your planet. Our spaceship has stopped because we're running out of fuel. Do you have any idea where we can get some?" "Yes, certainly, Martians. Down the street you'll find a gas station! We can show you the way." "Thanks for your politeness. Oh, look at the schoolyard. What a funny playground you have!" "Yes, it´s true. We have a giant-climbing-place, a big hill with a slide, a tower and an underground tunnel. We also have four table tennis sites, climbing-poles and a wall with two holes in it. There we can compete in soccer-goal shooting. Let´s go to the gas station now, so that you can get your fuel. "Oh, that's really nice of you. Now we can go." "Tschüss!" "Good-bye." "Hey, they were really friendly!" "What is that down on the ground?" "Let me look at the map... I think it's Japan!" written by class3b of Pestalozzischool Gladbeck in Germany |

"Which island do we want to go to?" "Let´s go to the one farthest south." "Where are we now?" "There's someone. Let's ask him!" "Where are we?" "Your skin is so green. Who are you?" "Oh, I have forgotten to introduce us. We are Martians." "Really? Oh, you have come from the Pestalozzi-School. This is Kusyu in Japan. The Meiwa Primary School in the city of Miyakonojou, in the prefecture Miyazaki." "You are invited to our school! The dinosaurs are here!" "Wow!" "Here we have an arena, an open-air theater. Oh, the classes are beginning." "You have you no bell?" "Right. Come and follow us! We'll show you our class room." "We don't see any walls between the hallways and the rooms." "Right. Here everything can be opened freely, so that different kinds of instruction can occur. We call that 'open space .' That is , if you remove the walls of three classrooms, a large classroom of 27x9 is created from it." "The hallways are also wide." "Yes. And there are school events like meetings, and school journeys to other Japanese schools. Here at Meiwa School, we have a special tradition: the annual school party, the Meiwa School Party." "By the way, your school is new. How old is it?" "This year it has become exactly 10 years old. It is the newest school of the city of Miyakonojou. On November 18th we will have our anniversary. Don´t forget to visit us again!" "Yes, we hope to." "Now, our friends from Osaka are waiting for you." "Osaka? Where is that? In any case, we´ll go there immediately." ![]() |

"Really? Can we fly to Osaka now?" "Here is Osaka already!" "What? So quickly?" "Here we won't go into the school, but look for fuel." "Alright. Then we'll land nearby that salty water." Baaang! "Oh, it stinks." Kasugachild: "You drive badly. By the way, the Kasuga school is located 10 km to the north ." Martian: "Tja, but there is not much fuel left." "By the way, you do not stink, earthlings." Kasugachild: "Yes, we do. It is normal to stink, because the sea is filled up with garbage." Martian (out of the window of the spaceship): "Hey! We can find a lot of fuel here!" "Really? Osaka is a fine station for us!" Kasugachild: "I've never heard that one can get the fuel here." Martian: "The fuel of Pestalozzi was mineral oil!" Kasugachild: "Isn't the fuel for your spaceship mineral oil?" Martian: "No, it´s a secret. It's really garbage." Martian (out the window of the spaceship): "The tank is nearly full. Woah! So much fuel-garbage we can collect here." Kasugakind: "I wish the stink would go away." Martian: "OK. I invite you to fly with us. Will you do that?" Kasugachild: "Oh, no. To Mars?" Martian: "No, no. We're looking for a power station for the fuel-garbage on the earth." "Go, otherwise it will stink here again!" |

"What's down there?" "I am not sure, but I think that's France!" "Oh! Woodsticks! Shall we fly down?" "Yes, but be careful with the woodsticks!" "Oh, a swimming pool!" ![]() "I'm afraid not! Look, some fishes! It's a small pond!" "The flowers in the garden are beautiful!" "Listen! A noise! I'm afraid! Let's hide!" The door in the floor of the spaceship opens by itself! "Oh! There are our friends from Tourcoing!" "Hello, Martians! Isn´t our garden beautiful? And our climbing wall? Isn´t it exciting? ![]() "Yes! We can try it?" "Yes, but before we'll give you some practice. Otherwise it is too dangerous! We also invite you into our class to see Poissirène, our class- animal! He is very nice!" "Ok! Let us go! " "Oh! This class is very large! Why? "Because we've taken away one wall!" Martian: "Woah! Pretty masks on the wall!" Julien: "We're going to perform a play about our internet story 'House of Horror' at the school party on June 9th, when the Gladbeck children visit us from Germany. The masks were made for the Monster party!" Martian: "Woah! You also have many books! " Another one: "Look! You even have a painting-studio, a water-studio and here this fine construction-studio! Laurette: "And don´t forget our music-studio!" Martian: "You're lucky! But now we have to look for a power station for our fuel-garbage!" "There is one nearby,'Triselec' in Halluin at the Belgian border. Thank you and Tschüss!" "In any case, one day we´ll get back here. The children of Tourcoing are just as nice as those from Pestalozzi, don´t you think?" "Certainly! They're all very nice!" ![]() |

Cory asked Mr. Fisher if he could go to the bathroom. As Cory walked into the hallway he got sucked up into space by two Martians. When Cory reached the spaceship he said, "Wazzupp?!" Cory asked the Martians, "Who are you?" The first one said, "I'm May," and second one said, "I'm Zurg." Cory said, "Please take me back home." Zurg said, "Where do you live?" Cory said, "I live in Cairo, NY." May said, "Where is that?" "By Cairo Elementary School in New York State, in the United States. In New York there are tall mountains. The Hudson River is the most important river in our state. New York is in the northeast of the United States. In the Summer it is hot and humid. In the Winter it is snowy and freezing. In the Fall the leaves change colors, like red, orange, yellow, and also brown. Fly down to the middle of New York State. That's where I live!" Cory said to the Martians that they were in the Catskill Mountains. One Martian said to the other one to land at Cairo Elementary School. "Cairo is a little town," said Cory. Cory started telling the Martians about Cairo and the Catskills. He told the Martians about the places around Cairo, like Acra, Round Top, Freehold, Purling, and Durham. The Martians said to Cory, "Do you have a lot of buildings in town?" Cory said, "Yes." They flew over what looked like a river. "That's Catskill Creek," said Cory. "People come here for vacations. Around here we swim and hike a lot. Look! That part of the mountain is where a big hotel, the Catskill Mountain House, used to be. It burned down in 1930." The Martians asked, "Where do you learn all this stuff?" "From the Internet on computers and from books," Cory said. The Martians said that they have a computer and some books, but they don't know how to go on the Internet. Cory asked them if he could show them sometime. They said, "Sure!" "There's my school!" Cory said. The Martians came down and landed in the front yard of the school. Cory said, "This is Cairo Elementary School. Let's go inside. I'll tell you about the lunchroom that is under our classroom." They went into the lunchroom and Cory said, "This is out table. The basic foods that we eat are pizza, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, and sometimes bagels. Then Cory brought them to one of the gymnasiums and said, "This is where we go after lunch. We play dodgeball in this room. We have three gymnasiums in our school!" Then Cory brought them to the main office and introduced them to Mr. DeLuca, our principal. He said, "Hello! Cory, that is a good Science project! Where did you get them?" Cory said, "From Mars." Mr. DeLuca said, "I hope you put them in our Science Fair." Cory said, "I will!" He said to the Martians, "Let's go to the playground and I'll tell you more about school." Cory brought them outside to the playground and said, "This is one of our playgrounds. We have two. We have six grades and the are called: Kindergarten (that means Child's Garden in German), First Grade, Second Grade, Third Grade, Fourth Grade, and Fifth Grade." Then Cory brought them to his classroom and showed the Martiansthe publishing company books hanging outside the door. Coryknocked on the door. It was just as the class was settling down to read when there was a knock at the door. Knock, knock, knock. Mr. Fisher answered the door. It was Cory and two Martians. "Cory, I thought you were going to the bathroom," said Mr. Fisher. "I thought I was, too!" said Cory, with a weird look on his face. "Well, anyway, Mr. Fisher, this is May and Zurg." "Why are there Martians in the classroom?" asked Mr. Fisher. "I led them here and to the classroom," said Cory. "Oooooooh! Big roooooom!" said May and Zurg. "Ahhhhhhhh! More aliens!" "It's okay. These are my friends. I have 19 kids in my class," said Cory. "What are those square things, Earthling?" said Zurg. "Those are computers." "Ooooooh! Would you introduce us to your Earthling friends?" saidMay. "Everybody, this is May and Zurg," said Cory, introducing them. "What are those symbols?" said May. "Those are publishing company signs," said Cory. "We write, illustrate, copy, and sell our own books. We sell them all over the world. We even sold some to a teacher in Germany named Hans-Jürgen Fuhrmann," said Cory. "We hate to leave, but we must. Good-bye!" said May and Zurg. "Good-bye!" said Cory. "I hope we meet again sometime."

They landed nearly in the middle of the city of Berlin, exactly in front a beautiful school, which was built of bricks. They saw a teacher, who just wanted to go home . "Hello, we are May and Zurg, we come from the planet Mars. Where are we here?" "You are in Berlin, the young capitol of Germany, said the teacher, and that here is Werbellinsee school. Come along I ´ll show you our school." The Marsmen discovered in a class room a large reading corner with a rocking chair and a writing-corner with 6 computers. Suddenly the door was torn up. "A pupil called: "lunch"". The Mars persons were amazed. "Here one can lunch?" They went to a beautiful mensa, where it smelled very tasty. "We also have a free time area. Many children remain at school until 16 h . In the afternoon they play and build after the instruction of their educators." "Oh, you have a crazy school yard", said May and Zurg. They saw a large football field, a large cube for climbing, the race track, mini golf and table tennis disks. " Hey , marsians ", said a pupil," you see our school pond and the school garden and in the large cage live our rabbits and guinea pigs, interesting, isn´t it?" May and Zurg rushed quickly through the three floors of the school. On the walls hung many pictures of the pupils and there were displays to see from several projects. They had a look into the pupils kitchen and into pupils library. "Your school is beautiful, but we need new fuel for our ufo urgently", said Zurg. Over there on the right, not far from the school, there is a gasoline station ", called two pupils. Short time after they had refueled the Ufo, they entered the Ufo.. " Where do we go now ? ", asked Zurg. Do we fly to Bavaria? Computerkids of the class 3c of Werbellinsee-Grundschule in Berlin |
